three main types of financial aid for college:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><u>Need-based Aid<\/u><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0For students who have demonstrated financial need. \u00a0To qualify for this type of aid, students and parents must complete the<strong> Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)<\/strong>. \u00a0The FAFSA is free and available beginning October 1st at <u><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">studentaid.gov.<\/a><\/u>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gafutures.org\/media\/bfbp0n3h\/fafsa-combined-checklists-fy2025-digital.pdf\">A FAFSA checklist can be found here.<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 ALL students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA form, even if you think you won&#8217;t qualify for need-based aid. \u00a0The FAFSA also serves as your <a href=\"https:\/\/gsfc.georgia.gov\/media\/9051\/download\"><strong>HOPE scholarship<\/strong><\/a> application and indicates to your colleges that you are interested in receiving financial aid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><u>Loans<\/u><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 Money that is required to be paid back when a student graduates or stops attending school. \u00a0Student loans awarded through FAFSA are low-interest loans with extended payback plans. \u00a0For more information on loan programs, please visit given to students who have demonstrated high achievement in academics, or some other areas such as fine arts, athletics, or community service. \u00a0There are literally over a million scholarships available to students. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 Obtaining scholarships requires A LOT of work the student&#8217;s part! \u00a0The best place to start is on the Admissions or Financial Aid webpage of the schools you are applying to. \u00a0Many colleges and universities have separate applications for their scholarship programs (sometimes even due prior to admission decision deadlines). \u00a0Many private organizations offer scholarships to outstanding students. \u00a0Check out the scholarship search engines listed on this page to research these. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 There are several scholarship opportunities dispersed in the counseling office throughout the year. Please join the senior remind to stay in the know!
